Steps for Successful Registration
Here's how to minimize registration problems
| 1. See your advisor | Your advisor will help you develop a schedule, but will also provide advice on class sequences, course-load, and other important things. |
| 2. Develop your schedule | Be sure you include alternates to use in case of closed classes and conflicts. |
| 3. Check the student information system for your registration time | Registration times are posted on the web about two weeks before advanced registration begins. You will receive an email when times are available. |
| 4. Test your terminal to be sure you can log in and to be sure you are not on hold | Don't wait until the day registration starts to find out your server isn't compatible with ours, or some other problem exists. |
| 5. When your assigned time comes, log in and register for classes | |
| 6. If on financial aid, double check for problems and be sure you are approved | Many students have their schedules removed from the system each term because of some problem with their financial aid. Double-check to be sure everything is in order before the fee payment deadline and avoid problems with getting your schedule back in. We will help you reinstate a schedule but there are often times when the result is not very good. |
| 7. If not on financial aid, pay for your classes by the deadline date | If you are sure you are going to attend classes, but have some problem making your payment, contact the registrar's office. We will hold your schedule so it won't be canceled for non-payment. |
| 8. Double-check about a week after payment deadlines to be sure your schedule was not removed or changed | Even when everything is done correctly, automated systems can sometimes cause your schedule to be dropped accidentally. Since it is difficult for us to know when an accident has occurred, it is best for you to stay on top of things. Be pro-active. Also, be sure you have not inadvertently registered for a class in the audit mode. It is difficult to change to normal mode after the term starts. |
| 9. Make any necessary adjustments to your schedule during open registration times or during drop/add | Be sure to make any necessary adjustments to your payment if you change your schedule. |
| 10. BE SURE YOU HAVE A VALID EMAIL ADDRESS AND THAT IT IS MARKED AS YOUR PREFERRED ADDRESS IN BANNER | If you don't take these two steps, you will automatically get the lowest priority for registration. |

Where to Register
You can register for classes from almost anywhere. All you need is
a computer with access to the World Wide Web. If you don't have a computer
at home or at work, there are several computer labs on campus you can use:
Printing Your Schedule
To print your schedule, select Student Schedule by Day and Time
and use the print function in your web browser.
Problems You Might Encounter
Prequisite and Test Score
Errors
If you have not completed the prerequisite for a course, or if there
is a test score required such as the MAT test for math courses, the computer
system will not let you register unless you have met the requirement. If
you believe you have met the requirements and the computer still won't
let you register, see the department that is responsible for the class
for an over-ride. You will have to satisfy the department head that you
have, in fact, met the requirement or should be exempted from meeting it.
Exceeding Your Maximum
Allowable Hours
| If you are | You can automatically register for | Your Program Head can authorize |
| A Graduate Student | 13 hours | 16 hours |
| An Undergraduate Student | 18 hours | 21 hours |
| An undergraduate student on probation | 13 hours | 18 hours |
Time Conflicts
The computer is programmed to prevent you from registering for classes
that meet at the same time or have an overlapping time period. Usually,
there is no recourse. There are occasionally exceptions. These exceptions
would be granted by either the professors teaching the classes, or the
program heads controlling the classes involved. The Registrar's Office
will not over-ride a time conflict for you without the permission of the
faculty.
Link Errors
Certain classes are designed to be linked to other classes. If you
receive a link error, you have attempted to enroll in a class that is linked
to another class. You must sign up for both of the classes to avoid the
link error.
Problems Registering From
Off Campus
If you experience problems logging on while trying to register from
off-campus, try setting your browser to accept cookies. Most problems are
related to web browsers. We have had less trouble with Netscape Navigator
than with any other browser. Your problem could also be related to the
firewalls that most corporate computer systems have in place. Contact your
company's Information Technology department for help.
Registration Restrictions
Some classes are designed to only allow a specific type student to
register. (Only seniors, for example.) If you want in to a restricted course,
you must see the department that controls the course.
Testing Information
Math Assessment Test
Prior to being allowed to register for Southern Polytechnic's math
courses, all students who have not been awarded credit by Southern Polytechnic
State University for College Algebra and Pre-calculus (Southern Polytechnic's
Math 1111 and 1113) are required to take the Math Assessment Test (MAT).
The
MAT may only be taken once.
The MAT will be offered:
| Date | Time | Location |
| Oct 30th | 2pm and 6pm | Burruss Auditorium |
| Nov 27th | 2pm and 6pm | Burruss Auditorium |
| Dec 3rd | 8am | Burruss Auditorium |
| Dec 10th | 2pm and 6pm | Burruss Auditorium |
You do not need to register in advance for the testing session. The test is a 90-minute exam, so please plan your schedule accordingly. There are other test dates. Check with the testing coordinator for more information.
When you report for testing, you must bring a photo ID (such as your driver’s license) and two sharpened No. 2 pencils. You are not permitted to use a calculator while taking the MAT.
If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by the ATTIC or
call them at (678) 915-7224.
Regents' Testing Program Sign-Up
All students who attend a college within the University System of Georgia
are required to pass the Regents' Test prior to earning 45 semester credit
hours.
Returned Checks and Fee
Payment
If you register for classes, we assume you want to attend. If you decide
not to attend, we have no way of knowing that unless:
If you pay for your classes with a check that is returned for insufficient funds, we assume you are attending and want to continue to do so. You must contact the Office of Fiscal Affairs and make arrangements to satisfy your obligation to pay for your classes. You will not be allowed to register for classes again until you have paid for current term classes.
If, for any reason, a payment is canceled (i.e. returned check, credit card charge-back, etc.), the schedule of classes may be cancelled due to non-payment of fees. Canceling a credit card charge does not relieve you of your obligation to drop or withdraw from classes, nor does it guarantee that your financial obligation has been cancelled. An additional $25.00 service charge will be assessed on all checks returned to the University due to insufficient available funds.
Refer to the college catalog for details on withdrawing from classes and Southern Polytechnic’s refund policy.
