The
HOPE Scholarship
Georgia's HOPE
program provides scholarship and grant
assistance to legal residents of Georgia attending eligibile Georgia
post-secondary institutions. The HOPE scholarship is available to full
time and part time students. There is no minimum hours of enrollment to
receive HOPE. All legal residents of Georgia who meet HOPE
eligibility
requirements may receive a HOPE grant to seek a technical certificate
that is awarded and issued by the institution and approved by the Board
of Regents.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Meet Georgia
residency requirements
- Meet citizenship requirements
- Be registered with the Selective Service if
required
- Be a 1993 or later graduate of an eligible high
school
- Be classified as a FINAL HOPE SCHOLAR
Students graduating from high school prior to 1993 or
students who were
not academically eligible immediately after high school
graduation may be eligible for a HOPE scholarship after attempting 30,
60, or 90 semester hours, if a 3.0 cumulative grade point average is
earned.
Applying for HOPE:
If you complete the Electronic HOPE Application,
please notify us at financial_aid@spsu.edu
or
visit us at the Financial Aid Office. Please
allow 6-8 weeks for
processing. You also need to
notify us if you completed a FAFSA and will be a first semester
transfer
student at SPSU, you lost HOPE in the past (either at SPSU or at
another
school) and believe you have regained eligibility, or if you did not
qualify
for HOPE immediately after high school and you believe you have a 3.0
at one of
the three checkpoints.
Maintaining HOPE:
- Freshmen - Must meet eligibility requirements
for
High School Students and have a 3.0 GPA after attempting 30 credit hours
- Sophomores - Must have a 3.0 GPA after
attempting 60
credit hours
- Juniors - Must have a 3.0 GPA after attempting
90
credit hours
- Seniors - Must have 3.0 GPA after attempting 127
credit hours
In addition to the 30,
60, and 90
checkpoint hours, students will also be evaluated every Spring. It is important to remember
that attempted hours generally
include all credit hours attempted after high school graduation, as
well as hours from which the student withdrew after the official
drop/add period. Additionally,
scholarship students may not receive HOPE for more than 127 semester
hours
unless their program requires more than 127 hours for graduation. If
more than
127 hours are required, HOPE will pay for the number of hours required
for
graduation, up to a maximum of 150 hours. Grant students must be taking
courses that are in their stated certificate program of study.
Award Amounts:
- Tuition - HOPE will pay for the total cost of in
state tuition, regardless of the number of hours enrolled per semester.
- Fees - HOPE will
cover a small portion of fees that are charged. For the majority of
students,
the amount covered is $221.
- Book Allowance -
- 1-5 Credits: $75
- 6+ Credits: $150
