The TI-89 is the required calculator for this course. No other calculator will be allowed for use on tests or quizzes. Bring your calculator to class each day. For graded work, for some problems a calculator will be required, and for others no calculator will be allowed.

Course Objectives: This course is a study of the fundamentals of Calculus, beginning with limits, followed by differentiation and integration of algebraic and trigonometric functions. Also applications curve sketching, rectilinear motion, extremum problems, area between curves, volumes of revolution, moments and center of mass. The primary goal of this course is to develop the student's problem-solving ability in these areas.

Grading: Four one-hour exams, worth 100 points each. Make-up exams will only be given at the discretion of the instructor, and with a valid excuse for the absence. You must contact the instructor by phone or email no later than the day of the exam if you need to arrange a make-up exam. One Final Exam, worth 200 points. The Final will be cumulative. Quizzes and take-home assignments will be worth a total of 150 points. No late take-home work will be accepted, and no make-up quizzes will be given, but the lowest scores for both of these will be dropped. Your grade for the course will be calculated from the percentage of your total points: 90% for A, 80% for B, 70% for C, 60% for D.

The last day to withdraw from the course with a W is Tuesday, October 13.

Electronic Disruptions: Please turn off all cell phones before class begins. Except in the case of an emergency, cell phone use, including texting, is not permitted in this class.
