: Discrete Mathematics with Applications, Third Edition, Susanna S. Epp
 

Course Objectives: An introduction to the fundamentals of discrete mathematics. Topics include  counting, logic, induction, systems of linear equations, relations, graphs and trees, finite state automa, set theory.

You will need a calculator for this course

Homework: A list of practice homework exercises is here. We will discuss questions about the exercises at the beginning of class. You will be quizzed on the homework regularly.

Grading: There will be 3 regular exams worth 100 points each.
The Final exam will beworth 200 points.
There will be 10 or more quizzes. The quizzes are worth 10 points each, but only the best 8 will count.
No make-up quizzes will be given. Make-up exams will only be given at the discretion of the instructor, and with a valid excuse for the absence. You must contact me in a timely fashion by phone or email by the day of the exam if you need to arrange a make-up exam. Grades will be awarded based on percentage of total points as follows:

90% A, 80% B, 70% C, 60% D.

The last day to withdraw from the course with a W is Tuesday, October 10.
