1. Approval of Minutes
1.1 The minutes to the

Review Board P&P (no number), May 2003
2.1 The Senate approved the Institutional Review
Board P&P with the following amendments made at the
2.1.1
Under Background, after “This P&P provides the charge for the Institutional
Review Board. (IRB)” add “It is the responsibility of the principal
investigator, employee, or agent to initiate and follow the procedures described
below to ensure the safety and rights of the human and animal participants.”
2.1.2
Under Goals, after “The Southern Polytechnic State University Institutional
Review Board (SPSU-IRB), reviews for approval and monitors for progress all
research protocols” insert “and instructional experimentation.”
2.1.3
Under Submission Process, after Incomplete applications will be returned
without review.” add “Note: Grant applications require this approval prior to
submission.
2.2 The Senate also approved the amended
Institutional Review Board application form “Application for the Use of Animal
and Human Subjects in Research.”

4.1 Senator Thain, chair of Subcommittee 3, promised
to present some P&P drafts at the next Senate meeting. On the horizon for his subcommittee, the
Faculty Senate P&P.
5. Discussion of Summer Term
Interim VPAA Hornbeck,
speaking on plans for the upcoming summer term, made it clear that Summer 2005 faculty salaries must come from the FY2006
budget, which is anticipated to be less than the current budget. If the faculty
pay rate is to remain the same as summer 2004, then the minimum class sizes for
cancellations and for full compensation would have to be increased for summer
2005 if we are to approach a true “break-even” point.
