For each item below, read the requirement and answer the question(s). Sign at the bottom.
1.  
Your academic advisor is your first stop when you begin the process of petitioning to graduate.

2. A minimum grade point average of 2.00 is required for graduation.

There are no exceptions. If you don't have a 2.00, you must continue to take classes until you do.

Every student is required to pass both parts (reading and writing) of the Regent's Exam before an undergraduate degree can be awarded. International students must pass the international version.

There are no exceptions. If you have not passed the Regent's exam, you cannot graduate.
4.  
Certain courses cannot be used toward an undergraduate degree such as Regent's Remedial courses, developmental studies courses, CPC courses, excess free electives, and courses you took more than once.

There is no corrective action you can take. If the course does not count toward a degree, you cannot use it.

Generally, courses you took more than 10 year ago cannot count toward your degree.

Every degree program requires a minimum number of earned hours.

There are no exceptions. You must have earned the minimum hours for your degree.
7.  
The State of Georgia requires that you demonstrate a level of knowledge about the U.S. Constitution and about the history of the State of Georgia. Generally, if you completed your U.S. History or Political Science class here or in another University System school, the requirement is satisfied. If you transferred these courses in from a non-system or out-of-state school, the requirement can only be satisfied by taking HIST 2911.

8.  
SPSU requires that you take at least 25% of the hours needed for your degree in residence (at SPSU).

SPSU also requires that the final:
  • 20 hours of an associate degree 
  • 30 hours of a bachelors degree 
  • 60 hours of a bachelors of Architecture

The University System of Georgia requires all graduates from a system school to have complete the USG core.

11.  
You have a choice of catalogs to make. You may graduate under any catalog that was in effect during your study at SPSU, provided you did not have a break of more than two terms (three under the quarter system). If you did have a break, you can only choose from catalogs that were in effect after your return to SPSU. It is up to you to decide which catalog is most advantageous. If you choose the wrong catalog, you can change your mind, but your graduation might be delayed. Changing majors has the same affect on your eligibility to use a given catalog as a two term break. Do not ask the Registrar's office or your academic advisor to evaluate your chances for graduation under several different catalogs. You must choose.

To receive a minor, a student must complete at least six hours of the upper division requirements for the minor at SPSU. Transfer credit may be used to satisfy the other requirements for the minor.

Every petitioning student must pay the graduation fee  in the business office before the petition is turned in.

You must pay the graduation fee if you intend to graduate. There are no exceptions.
 

16.

In order to graduate, you must have no outstanding financial obligations to the university such as parking fines, tuition due, dorm fees, etc. You also must pay the graduation fee. The business office will stamp your petition to graduate when you pay the fee.

You cannot receive your diploma or a transcript reflecting your degree until you have cleared all financial obligations. There are no exceptions.

You must take all of the courses required for your degree. Your major department will check your major course and the registrar's office will check the USG core. If you need to substitute any courses for required major courses, your department head will assist you. If you need to substitute a core course, you will be required to fill out a course substitution petition, which must be approved by the faculty. No course substitution can be considered approved until you receive a written notification from the registrar's office.
