March 26, 2003

March 26, 2003 Faculty Senate met in M100 Auditorium, at noon. Professor Tom Currin, Moderator of the Faculty presided.

1. Welcome

1.1 Moderator started the meeting at 12:00

2.0 Faculty Activities

2.1 Motion made, seconded, and passed: Send the faculty approved Faculty Activities P&P (yr 2002) back to the administration: only change program heads to department chairs as per the reorganization

2.2 Discussion included following concerns:

2.2.1 VPAA's revision increased T1 and T2 hours, while still requiring major efforts towards academic achievement. A number of senators felt that was unfair.

2.2.2 The document itself will need to be further studied and revised when time permits, because many of the expectations/requirements are not well defined.

 

3.0 Continuation of Promotion P&P discussion

3.1 Motion made, seconded, and passed: (Ref page 7, item #3) Add sentence: "The equivalency (of the doctor's degree) is to be determined at the school level".

3.2 Motion made, seconded, and passed: (Ref page 6, item #2 Promotion from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor-Time in Rank ) Add sentence: "Faculty hired prior to July 1, 2003 may go up for promotion during their fifth year."

3.3 Discussion began on impact of department peer committee, department chair, school peer committee and/or dean's not approving promotion, prior to advancing package to VPAA.
