  1. The Student Life Committee was called to order by the presiding chair, Lance Crimm.

  1. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

  1. The committee continued its discussion of parking problems that will result from upcoming construction for new campus housing.

  1. Chief Chasteen will implement the necessary adjustments to allow for more parking spaces for student residents as discussed on October 9; some faculty spaces will be converted into student spaces.

  1. The committee reviewed events for students’ week (November 3-7). Events included a chess tournament, pep rally for Hornet’s games, town hall meeting,  International Student Association variety show, and SPSU student party.

  1.  The committee discussed Klein’s proposed additions to Section 3 in the Student Code of Conduct. The additions would be listed as sections 3.I  and 3.J and would further define “Disorderly Conduct.”

(3.I) Engaging in any unlawful activity while on the university campus, property, or property leased by the university.

(3. J.) Engaging in any unlawful activity off campus that campus that could be reasonably expected to create a negative impact for the university and its operation or safety of the university community.

Members of the committee expressed concern about innocent students being unfairly suspended from the university prior to an official hearing related to accusations of disorderly conduct off-campus.

The committee was reassured that if an interim suspension was issued because of disorderly off-campus activity, then a student could request an immediate hearing with the Director of Residence Life or the Judicial Board to dispute the suspension.
