Minutes for UCC Meeting of  November 11, 2003

Announcement:  Richard Monroe, UCC Secretary, announced his resignation from the UCC due to a conflict with the Standing Committee P&P which states that no faculty member shall serve on TWO Standing Committees.  He will continue to serve on the Graduate Program Committee.

Election:  Tom Wiseman was elected to continue as Committee Chair and Barbara Bernal Thomas was elected to replace Monroe as the UCC Secretary.

 

Old Business (tabled at previous meeting)

HTC: ARTS elective “History and Analysis of Rock Music”

After additional debate, the proposal was Approved by the committee with one dissenting vote (who favored making it part of the core rather than an elective).

 

Computing and Software Engineering

After discussion & resolution of ECET concerns – all the SWE proposals were Approved.

 

A & S:  Social and International Studies:

Adding “Technology and the Law” concentration in International Studies

The proposed concentration was Approved.

Undergraduate Certificate in Spanish

Increased hour requirements for the Certificate in Spanish – Approved.

 

Mathematics:

New course – Math 3496, Number Theory

New course – Math 3596, Topology

Add two minors to the Math BA degree

Both new courses and the minors were Approved.

 

Biology:

New Course – Biol 4100K, Entomology, 3-3-4

New Course - Biol 4200K, Zoology, 3-3-4

Both new courses were Approved.

 

Records:

Student petition – Patricia Layman

Based on the description of the ATET curriculum in the catalog – the petition was Approved.

Student petition – Jason Hughes

The student petition was tabled due to lack of time.

 

Announcement

Dr. Mary McShane Vaughn will be the new UCC representative for the IET Department to replace Monroe.
